Attentive to “his master’s voice,” the trademark mutt, Nipper, seems as fascinated by the disc gramophone as the listening public was. The artist first painted his pet listening to an Edison cylinder phonograph, but agents for Edison showed no interest. Nipper eventually became the symbol for Victor gramophones.
