"20 sexiest world music tracks" #6

Los Zafitos – “La Luna en tu Mirada”

"There’s something indefinably sexy about doo-wop. Which is immediately doubled when it’s combined with a Latin flavour. One could happily get it on to just about any track from this album. But the sensuous, slow-burn of “La Luna en tu Mirada” gets my vote. Remember Bo Derrick stripping for Dudley Moore to Ravel’s Bolero? It reminded me of that, even before I’d read the translation of the lyric with its “revelations of ecstasy” and “wild and shining fantasy”. Where could you find words like that in the Anglo-American pop music of the time, when even the Beatles only wanted to hold your hand?" (Nigel Williamson, Songlines Contributor)
