"20 sexiest world music tracks" #4

Cibelle – “Hate”

While the fact that Cibelle was once a model should have no bearing on our appreciation of her music, it’s difficult to hear this piece of exquisitely groovy nouveau pop-bossa without picturing the São Paulo cyber-siren flitting half-naked round your living room. There’s a beautifully arch coolness to her voice, particularly when she goes ‘doo-dooby-doo-ooo…’ halfaw trhough. And anyone who can sing ‘I love you so much when you’re inside me’ without sounding seft-conscious is either so deliciously naïve it hurts of simply Brazilian. Cibelle is both. (Mark Hudson)
